Projects

This is where I'm "collecting" projects, past, present and future. Unfortunately, there is never enough time to work on projects, of which this web site is also one. So, while I try to update more than once every couple of years, don't hold your breath.

At one time, this area contained a mirror of Dave Brooks' P112 website for a single-board CP/M computer. That mirror is now gone.

Also, this site held my attempt at "RedHat 6.2.1" for SPARC. It was a series of RedHat packages that was designed to bring newer software to the RedHat/SPARC platform, without requiring a transition to the unstable Rawhide series of packages. This mostly involved rebuilding newer packages against the old libc used in 6.2. Ultimately, due to RedHat's complete lack of support for SPARC, I decided to switch to OpenBSD, and I haven't looked back.

This site also holds a guide to installing Linux on a Dell Latitude XPi P75T laptop. Interesting stuff, if you want to install Linux on near-obsolete hardware with very little recent documentation. Maybe some third-world country or non-profit organization just got a shipment of these, and they are looking for guidance on what to do with them. However, please do not e-mail me questions about the P75T or other Dell laptops, as I got rid of mine in 2003.

If you are looking for information about the Napravlyeniye project, you've come to the right place, almost.

At yet another time, I worked as a developer on a simple open-source weblog package called bplog. My big contribution was XHTML 1.0 compliance and starting to add CSS support, but I think it all got stripped out when the code was reworked. For my own personal blog, I currently use LiveJournal.

For EECS 487 (Introduction to Computer Graphics), I worked on a program called GLsat. I had actually started this project the semester before as a way to teach myself OpenGL and get more comfortable with concepts of scientific visualization (i.e. making math look pretty). The code is straight C++ with a GLUT wrapper around the OpenGL calls.
